Happy 3 Years Cardano!

hi everybody this is charles hoskinson broadcasting live from warm sunny colorado always warm always sunny sometimes colorado it's been an amazing three years third anniversary of cardano today we we launched cardano september 28 2017 and it was a very uncertain launch i remember how hard it was to get it out boy it caught the whole world by surprise and it was really incredible a little later in october we had a big event in tokyo japan and we had a great opportunity to talk to lots of different people and talk about what the project was about a year later we had another event in japan and over a thousand people showed up and i stayed to take pictures with each and every person there was no social distancing there long long long line that went all the way out and i think it took me two hours to take all the pictures with people and each and every one of them asked me questions and then the second anniversary it was in a very different venue it was implodive bulgaria and we had a great opportunity to plant some trees and that was a lot of fun too and it's amazing how quickly one year comes by absolutely amazing how quickly one year goes by it it was just like yesterday that i was with fossil and the rest of the gang over at the agricultural university and we were smiling and eating cake and we would have done something somewhere else probably kyoto or maybe mongolia maybe africa who knows we would have had something special with coronavirus was ravaging the world but at least i have a chance to be able to talk to all of you here and over the internet the community has gone up in size so dramatically it's unbelievable i think we've quadrupled there are seven times as many transactions on a daily basis today than there were on the second anniversary shelley has shipped there are 1200 plus registered stake pools more than a third of the network is decentralized and just in a few short months it'll be a hundred percent we are on the road to gogan things are moving along quite well there we have liquidity in more than 30 exchanges half a billion to a billion dollars of trading volume every single day there are hundreds of interesting ideas and projects that want to be on cardano i just got a report from door today about idea scale 2500 people are currently participating and 500 concepts have turned into a hundred different distinct ideas and very soon every single person cardonal who wants to vote and goes through that process will be able to vote on those proposals which is extraordinary more than half of all the ada the ecosystem is delegated incredible we just got bittrex back online they were last hold out radically bittrex was the first exchange to list us three years ago and true to form they came on back online right for the third anniversary they didn't want to miss that one also there are some great projects coming to cardano soon i can't spoil the announcement but it's going to be fun to announce them and the conversations i have every day are so much deeper and more meaningful the other day we met with john buck the sociocracy guys and we had a long conversation about perhaps we can merge some of those concepts into voltaire i had a long discussion about gradually dependent types and also talking about new smart contract dsls for specification we're just about to finalize contract with gregory and start building up yela there's just dozens of these every single week and they're hard because they're deep and meaningful i have talked to people the rohingya project we've talked to dozens of people worrying about diaspora or fertilizer vouchers every country we're just about ready to graduate the mongolian development class but you guys didn't even know we were doing that probably forgot about it we didn't let coronavirus stop us we trained another 25 haskell developers online over in mongolia we can't wait to hire them bring them on board and do some cool stuff with the kids who passed the class and really wowed us and it truly has become a global project three years ago there was a lot of hope and aspirations and now we're in a situation where that currency of hope and aspirations is translated into real life work and projects and people i still have that wonderful piece of art that was given to me to represent the stake pool operators at some point somebody's going to send me something to represent the community and it's going to be a lot bigger because there's a lot more than just a thousand dead list has evolved at a steadily a steady pace every aspect of the software has evolved at a steady pace and it has been extraordinary to see that realized in fact we've had such a profound influence on software in general that we're now a founding member of the haskell foundation which is coming out soon and we'll be able to have some technical steering to ensure that haskell continues to evolve be portable more useful for all kinds of things things we do all things considered this has been the biggest project i've ever worked on in my life including ethereum it's vast in scope and scale we're doing things vitalik chose to ignore or walk away from because they're just simply too hard and despite that we've made progress on every single front as we look to the next year 2021 it's a very different project it's going to be the first year where the community has total dominion over every aspect of the road map and total dominion over the priorities and how things ought to be done it's gone from a nissan project that was mostly a concept and an idea of a financial operating system to a project that belongs to you hundreds of thousands of you collectively but you the community that alone is the accomplishment of a lifetime because when you do something like that it never dies it evolves and grows and changes but for that to happen alongside the fact that we have the best proof of stake protocol the best accounting system the best network stack the best smart contract language all of these things that we built as well it's humbling it truly is humbling the academic community knows us and is working with us every single day to make sure that we stay on the bleeding edge in the forefront all those things you read about the complex crypto like snarks and these things new advancements in proof of stake better game theory we all know that and the people who write those papers read our papers inside our papers and want to work with us as a community we have four labs tokyo tech university of athens university of edinburgh and the university of wyoming which i just got back from and we talked from the university president all the way on down even had a meeting with the governor of wyoming it's truly profound to see how far we've come in such a short period of time and it's truly profound to see where we're going next you see in 2021 not only are you in charge you're going to build things on this platform people already are from our metadata standard which is already running to the smart contracts that are coming soon that means we're gonna see hundreds if not thousands of dabs deployed on cardano throughout 2021 same for assets issued with our multi-asset standard and what that effectively means is that when people talk about cardano they don't talk about cardano and daedalus and ada and state pools they talk about cardano as an ecosystem of d5 an ecosystem of missions from economic identity and inclusion to supply chains to help people out reduce waste fraud abuse and corruption e-voting tools identity tools for self-sovereign identity every category you could imagine that has come we're going to have that too and people very passionate about it are going to say why don't we go to a platform that's faster cheaper more secure and frankly is going to be grow with us and cares about our needs and gives us right out of the box a lot more tools than anybody else is so we're going to be in the middle of that maelstrom all throughout 2021.
