hi everybody this is pearls Hoskinson it's almost midnight here broadcasting live from warm sunny Colorado I decided I'd make a quick update for everybody and also thank the team for having a great product update today it was really an amazing thing I missed the first half of it and I had to rewatch it because I was the keynote at the wave financial conference that was held in California this morning it was a virtual summit it seems like these virtual summits have become pretty popular and pretty common and it's really amazing to see how quickly you can get an audience the wave financial is about 750 people relatively small event but they didn't advertise it much and our product update consistently had 5 to 600 people watching live and I'm sure we'll get thousands if not tens of thousands of views throughout the month what's really most exciting about it is that it is interactive and it covers comprehensively a lot of the different product areas and we still have yet to actually bring all of our product managers together you're only getting a small sample of the people despite that it's really starting to look a lot more mature and a lot more professional there's a little bit more work to do I mean you certainly can improve the microphone quality here and there and lighting quality and then I'm not everybody's internet it's completely up to snuff but it is important to understand that not everybody has good internet for streaming and they can't really do much about that because it depends on where they live but overall it was great to see the community questions we got dozens of them and the fact that people could vote real-time on which questions were important and then we were able to address that and we got a lot of wonderful comments during that entire event it really made me very happy it's so cool to see that stuff we have some interesting micro controversies that are already brewing and this makes me super happy it controversies especially strong opinions they occur when people feel passionate enough about an ecosystem to actually take the time to have an opinion about it especially when there's no external input so for example the pledge amounts the Prowse forks people have seen on the ITN these are hot-button issues and there's going to be a lot of fun in the month of May to start having this conversation with the community and get to a parameterization that people are gonna be happy with or at least the least worst parameterization that we can find so that's a great thing it shows the maturity of the community it shows that the technical depth of the community is definitely improving and it's growing it's one one thing that's really cool as address dia now allows you guys to rapidly deploy and build things and we've already gotten a lot of wonderful responses to it but overall this is a monthly affair and we're starting to see that there's better coordination and also less friction in these relationships so month by month yeah it's super cool to see rapid progress being made now dates were announced as I said I'm no longer the dates guy I know all the dates them but I can't announce them I don't talk about them I promise we'd let apart I have that discretion and she chose to announce the friends and family test that May 11th so I figured I should elaborate a little bit more on this particular test that just to make sure that people fully appreciate and understand what it is and what it's not so the point of the friends and family test net is that we recognized that the minute that we launched the stake pool test net there's going to be well more than a thousand actors who are sophisticated users who are doing a lot of stuff in very particular configurations that are immediately going to downloading a software install it and then submit tons of questions and we all get overwhelmed trying to immediately service all thousand-plus of these actors and help them through a lot of things in many cases things they've never seen before like using nicks or stuff like that so we thought it was a really good idea that we train up a cohort that can basically work in tandem with our people first it's a sanity check to verify that the software does what we think it does and it broadens our QA base so we can have basically a big resource surge on beta testing and get a people that we know for a fact can provide us very good advice about things to help us do some last-minute configure but more importantly it also means that once we trained up the people and friends and family when that tsunami wave of operators comes and they're looking for advice or suggestions it doesn't actually have to be an input-output employee or Carano foundation employee that can answer that many cases the community can begin solving its own problems which is really important for the long-term sustainability of the ecosystem it's important that the community has its own immune system the community has its own QA system it has its own of cadence to answer technical questions and resolve things and we're starting to see that so friends and family may eleventh will give us the opportunity to do this many of you if you're really clever have been watching our release schedules and realized that the Cardinal node is on a two-week release schedule and the last release so I believe is on the 23rd and the next release will be on May 7th so it's no coincidence that we happen to be releasing the friends and family test net right after the 7th because that's one will have the finalizing of the most of the work on the CLI done with the node to make it quite useful for free users to do all the kinds of things that they want to do but May is going to be a very busy month you're going to see a lot of stuff come out a lot of discussions happen card on effect episodes blog posts videos physical things to do documentation to read software to install it's it's really where all these big pieces are coming together rapidly as we march relentlessly towards the launch of shelly but what's really amazing about it is despite the enormity of the stuff that needs to be done and despite the fact that these things are non-trivial and they're very complicated and that they are multi-agent which means that we can't add one company unilaterally do everything we've noticed that there's a certain degree of flow to all of this that we've never really had before and we're starting to really get into that there's a focus and a flow and a lack of friction in these relationships and social dynamics where everybody just wants to solve the problem and everybody just wants to work together and this to me is is something that is an indication that not only are we going to get there but it's indications that our best days are ahead of us because if we can preserve this flow we can continue to move faster smarter and exhibit a degree of resilience that no one else in the space has so that's a truly remarkable phenomenon and it's something that gets me super excited and I think that this is a testimony to the patience and just the belief in the vision that the community has exhibited over throughout the years it hasn't been easy to be an ADA fan some days it hasn't been easy to be in the Cardinal ecosystem there have been some hard days for all of us from crazy markets to unfortunate delays some turnover here and there but we never once wavered or lost sight of what we were trying to accomplish or where we were trying to go and despite the tribulations and the adversity the real people stayed and it shows it shows with the questions they ask it shows what their attempts to be constructive and it shows with their desire to proactively build things and use our technology and that to me is perhaps the most meaningful thing in my entire life and my entire career is being constantly reinvigorated by that diligence passion and belief in the community so this is my heartfelt thank you to all of you that stuck with us throughout all the years and got us to this particular point now the good news is there are strength in numbers and as we launch as we release things our numbers will continue to grow much like coronavirus Fred's Cardno spreads and there's a great degree of reality in our ecosystem there's people who build things or want to use Cardno or aware of cardinal and now more than a hundred countries around the world and we're just starting to actually get into software like pivotal to look into sentiment scoring to get a sense of what market perception happens to be so many of you ask what are we going to begin aggressive marketing and the reality is for marketing be successful there to be kind of to efforts that run in parallel one is obviously we have to get the messaging right the brand right we have to get the concise vision out there so it doesn't require such a huge intellectual overhead and time overhead for people to truly understand who we are and what we're doing simplicity is the ultimate elegance and we have a long way to go to get to a point where our messaging exhibits that in its package for a ver ality but equally important is that we have to make sure that the community is armed with the right facts the community's armed with the right messaging and has the ability to spread the good word to everybody around and if they can do that then we'll have the largest army of marketers around to talk about the vision of card ATO you see the things we do transcend normal cryptocurrency things unfortunately there's a big amount of Fairweather surface following people look at the price they look at coin market cap they look at value and the question is when 10x when lambo these types of things it's counterproductive and those people don't care they'll dump the asset leave the ecosystem the minute that something more attractive comes along because at the end of the day they're they're not here to actually be evangelists for the technology they're not here to be evangelists for the social consequences of what we're trying to do so as we get to real life use cases as we actually see adoption of the technology it's going to become increasingly important that we maintain that same discipline resilience and commitment that we've had all throughout these years and making sure that we explain clearly what we're trying to do we're trying to reinvent society that's what this has always been about as an industry we're trying to redefine people's relationship with property rights their privacy their identity their wealth and we're trying to build global markets that are fair for the least amongst us as much as they are for the best amongst us we're trying to automate things like regulation we're trying to automate the collection of metadata and other things while preserving principles we're trying to say that perhaps it's good to have protocols that truth is irreversible that rules and terms conditions once they've been set they stay set and they don't change based upon political realities or the whims of wills of a particularly der these are things that are worth fighting for these are things worth investing in these are things worth building upon because we are all here to try to build a better world and we collaborate where and when we can with our competitors and our friends alike but nonetheless we still never lose sight of what we wish to accomplish to build a better world for everybody the point of good marketing isn't just focusing on the short-term wins and getting clarity and conciseness and getting the visuals consistent building beautiful web assets and making sure that people understand the immediate value propositions of the things we do it's very clear that this technology if adopted has enormous potential for reduction of waste fraud abuse and cost savings across the entire world but that's not the point the point of this technology isn't to make rich people richer businesses more efficient or somehow make it easier to do business abroad the point of this technology is to lift everybody up and put us all into a fair playing field and allow us to live in a society in the 21st century that was better than the society of the 20th century in a way that is fair and respects you as an individual and doesn't force you to hand your autonomy power or privacy your life over to some central actor and hope that they do well with it in many ways coronavirus has forced the entire world to start having a philosophical conversation we see it in the streets where people are protesting the lockdowns we see it when people start questioning the official stories about things about the origin of the virus or the science behind treatment and basically the techniques being used to silence people are not ones you would expect in a free and open society yeah you don't expect in a society where we have nothing to fear with a difference of opinion and we simply can debate with somebody for people to threaten to pull medical licenses or for videos like on YouTube to be censored and taken down because they contradict with body the World Health Organization so the whole world is starting to realize that there are very real stakes that have nothing to do with coronavirus but have everything to do with how they live moving into the 21st century all this technology we've constructed while it provides Wonder and magic for each and every one of us also has the potential to install the dystopia that even George Orwell would not be able to predict everything you say think and do can be traced and tracked social credit means that scores and numbers can be stamped on your head and over a billion people will now live under this reality where those numbers the people who created them don't even know where they came from because ultimately they derived from machine learning models and other things so it's difficult to know why your 600 versus 500 but yet society on autopilot will just accept that number and treat you accordingly for positive or negative results this is the world that we could potentially enter and we're now all getting a taste of it as a consequence of these lockdowns and witnessing how pervasive government power can be the point of our entire industry is to provide alternatives where and when it's sensible where we can get the benefit where we can make sure we can stave off war famine and disease where we can deal with these existential problems whether they be nuclear weapons or AI or unrestrained research into bio warfare what have you any of these existential risks that require global governance to resolve we can deal with these things without elevating one nation state above the other or one set of laws above the other and so the entire point of our movement is to have that conversation with the world and to let the world know that there are alternatives that d'un require are the methods of the 20th century and they say we can move beyond all of this and that's really the ultimate long term point of the marketing is to keep that philosophy strong and abroad in the tent and we'll find that we can find so many allies if we do that who've been fighting literally lifetimes for these things many of which who won't see it all the way through because they are a bit too old a bit too worn out but are willing to still carry that baton and to still fight for us so the next few months are going to be important milestones for the project as shelly comes out as we start seeing this protocol completely decentralized but a no means are they the end of the story in many ways they are the beginning of a new story of how we have crawled out of a concept an idea an unrealized fragile dream and we are now entering into a new reality where we are now going to begin fighting for a world that we'd all like to live in and we'd like to grow old in and hopefully we all get there together so I'm so happy about this product update that we recently did I love the trend and I think little by little it's gonna get better a month by month and it just gets exciting to watch them I love the discipline behind it where we kept it to an hour each time and the agenda was tight yet it still had a lot of dynamicism and community interaction and I'm really excited to see how we get to the virtual summit that's coming very soon we'll make an announcement about the virtual summit May and I hope to see you all there and that's really gonna be a summit about how do we get to real-world use cases it's gonna be a summit about the ecosystem of Technology around shelly and how are we gonna wake shelly up and make shelly so special for everybody and of course when we host it shall it will have been launched so the message won't be it's coming message which will be downloaded the hard fork is coming that's that's a good place to be in and then hopefully we can do it again for Gogan and for Voltaire as well so thank you all for listening have a nice night and it was always good to talk to you guys I love you as a community you're amazing people it's still bewildering to me to see how we've gone from nothing to a position where people name their children ADA they get tattoos with our logo I get letters in the mail from fans old and young alike it's a truly surreal and humbling experience and it does mean the world to me and to my family and to all those who I work with every single we understand the magnitude and the gravity of these things it certainly does get stressful at times and we do to attempt to inject levity at times but never once do we forget the amazing responsibilities that weigh on our shoulders and the hopes and dreams of the community as a whole so keep on dreaming keep on fighting and I look forward to May it's gonna be a very fun month for all of us Cheers
